About the Band

Wally's Swing World is a seven-piece "little big band" featuring the smooth vocals of Wally Trindade. Wally also plays guitar and is backed by upright bass, piano, drums, and a three-piece horn section. The band is based in Santa Cruz, California.

While some of the members of Wally's Swing World have played together for over fifteen years, they played their first professional gig as Wally's Swing World in Santa Cruz in 1992. The group was ahead of the wave of the recent swing craze, and their popularity quickly caught on and spread like wildfire. They have played with a number of locally and nationally-known acts, including Chris Isaak and Royal Crown Revue. The band has recorded four CDs: "Welcome to Wally's Swing World" (1994), "Full Swing Ahead" (1996), "More Than a Swing Thing" (1999), and their most recent release, "Cocktail Hour" (2003). Wally's Swing World has been featured on the compilations, "Next Generation Swing" and "Next Generation Swing, Volume 2," as well as "Swing Sucks: A Compilation of the Finest in Contemporary Swing."

Among numerous accomplishments, Wally's Swing World has earned recognition in local Readers Polls. In the Good Times "Best of Santa Cruz" awards, they were named "Best Jazz Band" in 1995, 1996 and 1997, and "Best Swing Band" in 1999. The readers of the Metro awarded them "Goldies" in the category "Best Local Jazz Band" in 1995 and 1996, and "Best Local Band" in 1998 and 1999.

The group has many loyal fans and, therefore, many regular engagements. In addition to the now traditional Wally's Swing World Happy Hour Fridays in Santa Cruz, the band appears monthly at Severino's in Aptos. The band is also a favorite at the Top of the Mark in San Francisco, appearing semi-regularly from October 1996 through October 2000. Among the group's many prestigious clients is the San Francisco Opera, which had Wally's Swing World perform at its 75th Anniversary Gala.

Wally's Swing World plays the standards of the swing era: Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole; the big band sounds of Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller; jump swing and more. The band steps into a more "modern" mode with the tunes of Bobby Darin, Elvis Presley and other 50s rock favorites. Wally and the band heat things up with a little Latin jazz, samba, salsa and bossa nova, and cool things down with smooth 'n' easy lounge numbers from Burt Bacharach, Stan Getz and Henry Mancini. From 1940s swing to 1950s rock and beyond, Wally's Swing World recreates the magic of American Music's Golden Era.
